This is the perfect entry level cruising power cat suited for family cruising. For an 8m boat, it has a huge interior and large cockpit, that seen in a much larger mono hull.
The easily driven hull design allows the boat to be pushed long at a top speed of 21 knots and cruise speed of 14 – 16 knots, powered by twin 60hp four stoke outboards.
The shallow draft gives options to get into places that other boats can’t, and with the beaching skeg’s, can be sat down on the sand.
“We first found about the leech 825 in a tiny little photo in the NZ boating magazine. We emailed Dan and booked flights to Christchurch to check out the newly launched Kokomo. Dan picked us up from the airport and from first meeting he became a great friend! We loved the boat and brought the plans there on the spot. We had a few ideas of our own with a slightly different interior layout. Dan was so flexible with the changes we wanted to make and was so quick to come through with the final design. His step by step plans were amazingly straight forward for a couple of complete novice boat builders ....a sailmaker and a nurse! Any questions we had during the build Dan was at the end of the phone happy to answer them. The CNC kit set layout was great there was almost no wasted plywood. Each step of the way the plans guided us and were straight forward to follow. We visited Dan again half way through our build and he took us out on sea trial on his boat so we could get an idea on how she handled. It took us 18 months to complete the boat from the first cut to launching day. We have had such an awesome time building the Stitch Up, it was actually far easier than we had anticipated. We just love cruising in our L825 on the Hauraki Gulf. It gets us to our destination comfortably and in quick time with great economy (1.2L/NM at 14 knots). It's a dream at anchor, great for raft ups and beach landings. Maintenance is easy as the systems are not complicated. We turn many heads when we come into a bay! Dan has made the whole process really easy as he was always there to guide us along the journey”

“The kit from Dan Leech was easy to read and built from scratch, with just a few e-mails to confirm some things during the build it all went really well. With Dan’s advice I modified some changes and added a fully functional bathroom with shower, hot water system etc. not to mention the whole boat is running on full solar energy. I have used 5x Dan Leech kit builds now ranging from OK Dinghies, 6.5mt sports boat and now the 825 power cat. I look forward to another Leech project in the near future”.
